HR: Human Remains Guide

HR: Human Remains characters

Quick answer

You play an ordinary office clerk in a demon-run city. Confirmed cast from the demo and discussions: your boss who assigns tasks, Laila, a lab worker, the stasis demon in the break room, and cleaners who mop up blood. Talking to demons and survivors is how you learn the rules of the new society.

You play an ordinary office clerk in a society run by demons — the store page's framing is "from the perspective of an ordinary office clerk". The cast around you mixes humans trying to survive and demons running the machine. Talking to both is how you learn the rules of the new society, and several named faces have already come out of the demo and the developer's community.

The demons you work for

The premise is blunt: the demons won the war, and those humans who remain are eaten, sacrificed or enslaved. Your survival ticket keeps you employed rather than on the menu. In the world, that plays out as:

  • Demon managers and clerks. The HR joke is not subtle — players note the game's "HR is always wasting your time" energy, and corporate structures are still running the apocalypse.
  • Guarded sites and entities. Labs carry "WARNING — UNRESTRAINED ENTITY" signage, and there are areas with enemies you evade rather than fight.
  • Survivors with information. Dialogue with humans and demons is the game's information system: rules, rumours and the openings a resist run needs.

What is not yet confirmed

Named bosses, the full cast list and the roles of the figures glimpsed at the end of the demo (a police system, human army hints) are not yet confirmed. Playtester notes describe the demo's ending as leaving suspense about exactly those threads — this page is updated with the full cast once the shipped build is verifiable.
